Stay on UVA Grounds
The University of Virginia is pleased to offer affordable on-Grounds (on-campus) dorm accommodations for guests attending the French Colonial Historical Society Conference. Rooms are available starting Wednesday, May 22 until Sunday, May 26, 2024.
The deadline to register for on-Grounds (on-campus) accommodations is Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
Accommodations
Affordable hall-style, single-occupancy accommodations are air-conditioned and located in the Alderman Road first-year residence area.
These student dorm rooms are a no-frills alternative to a hotel. Rooms are on a hall corridor and furnished with two lofted XL twin beds, two desks, and two wardrobes. On bed will be adjusted to standard bed height for ease of access, and each guest will be placed in a bedroom by themself. A set of compostable linens, pillow, and blanket will be provided. Bathrooms are on the hallway and are communal, shared with other guests of the same gender.
Please note that all guests must provide their own bath towels and toiletries. These items are not provided. Rooms are also not equipped with hotel-style amenities such as hairdryers, ions/ironing boards, hangers, or area lamps. Guests must provide their own.
Check-In Information
Check-in will take place during office hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) at the Conferences@UVA office, located at 425 Tree House Drive, Charlottesville, VA 22904. If your arrival occurs outside of regular business hours, you will need to contact the FCHS conference's administrator to arrange how to pick up your key. The latest possible check-out is 3 p.m. on Sunday, May 26.
There is a $25 charge for lost room keys. Guests will be asked to provide a credit card at the time of check-in and the lost key fee will be charged to that card if the guest does not return their key at check-out.

Pricing
These accommodations are offered at a rate of $46.00 per person, per night + 5.3% sales tax.
Parking
Parking for those staying in on-Grounds housing is available for an additional fee. Note that locations for residential programs are assigned by UVA Parking and Transportation and based on availability. If you require parking during your stay, please contact UVA Parking and Transportation at 434.924.7231 during their business hours of 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday to obtain a digital permit. Please specify that you are a participant in the French Colonial Historical Society Conference and will be staying in the Alderman Road dorms. Payment by credit or debit card will be required at the time of purchase.
Make Your Reservation
The program will provide you with a reservation code which you will need to make your room reservation. All reservations must be made online with a valid credit card. Payment is due when you make your reservation. The deadline to register for on-Grounds (on-campus) accommodations is Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
Graduate students receiving complementary on-campus housing do not need to register here. Please contact the conference organizers at frenchcolonial2024@gmail.com with questions about this option.
Changes and Cancellations
All cancellations and/or changes to the number of nights must be made no later than 14 days prior to your reserved check-in date to avoid a penalty. a cancellation fee of one-half the nightly room rate will be applied for each night cancelled after that date. Cancellations made less than 7 days prior to your check-in date are not eligible for any refund.
Use the 2024 Room Reservations Change and Cancellation Form to make any changes to your existing reservation. Be sure to select "French Colonial Historical Society" in the dropdown box beside "Program Associated with this Reservation." Please see the form for cancellation fees and policies.
