Join Us This Summer
We are happy to offer on-Grounds housing for the Charlottesville Rare Book School sessions.
- For those looking for an affordable, no-frills alternative to a hotel, we are offering student housing accommodations.
- This year, we are offering apartment-style, single-bedroom student accommodations one of the most popular dormitories, Bond House. Located at the south end of Brandon Avenue just off Jefferson Park Avenue, Bond is approximately a 15-minute walk to the UVA Main Library.
- In addition, for Sessions 2, 3, 4 and 5 (see below for session dates), we will offer air-conditioned single rooms in the University’s original historic buildings on The Lawn, at the center of Grounds.
- It should be noted that student housing is not like a hotel. These accommodations are NOT equipped with bath towels, soap, irons/ironing boards, hangers or area lamps (overhead lighting only). Other hotel-style amenities and toiletries such as shampoo, soap, and hairdryers are NOT provided. Each bed includes a compostable linen set, a pillow, and a blanket. Guests must make their own beds and must bring their own bath towels and toiletries.
Accommodations
Accommodations are available by session, with check-in on Saturday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. EDT at Gibbons House, and check-out the following Saturday. If you need to add an additional night to your stay, please contact conferences@virginia.edu for availability and additional instructions.
If you need to check in outside of the standard hours listed above, please contact rbsprograms@virginia.edu in advance to arrange for someone to meet you at the dormitory.

Options
Bond House
Located in one of UVA’s newest and most popular upperclass residence halls, these accommodations are single-occupancy bedrooms in a shared four-bedroom apartment. Guests will share an apartment with up to three other Rare Book School participants of the same gender.
Located at the south end of Brandon Avenue in the South Lawn neighborhood, just off Jefferson Park Avenue and next to the new Student Health and Wellness Building, Bond offers air-conditioned, open floorplan apartments with a living area, full kitchen, dining island, and two full bathrooms. Each bedroom is equipped with a full-sized bed (not a twin-sized bed), desk, dresser, and closet.
The bed comes with a linen package including a bed pillow, compostable sheet set, and a blanket. Air-conditioning in Bond House is set cooler in the summer months, and guests may wish to bring an additional blanket.
Guests must provide their own towels and toiletries and are responsible for removing their own trash to the appropriate dumpster at the conclusion of their stay. Please note, there is no housekeeping service during the week.
Laundry facilities are available in the building, and are operated by the Speed Queen app, which can be used to load funds and operate washers and dryers. Learn more at the Laundry page.
Per-night rate: $52.00 per person, per night + 5.3% sales tax
The Lawn
Located in Mr. Jefferson’s historic buildings at the center of the University near the Rotunda, Lawn rooms are newly air-conditioned, and furnished with a single lofted XL twin bed with an XL twin daybed underneath, a desk with chair, rocking chair, mini-fridge and a sink. All rooms have a fireplace.
The bed comes with a linen package including a bed pillow, compostable sheet set, and a blanket. Guests must provide their own towels and toiletries and are responsible for removing their own bedroom trash to the appropriate dumpster at the conclusion of their stay.
Lawn rooms do NOT have a private bath. Shared bathroom locations are available in the alleys behind the Lawn rooms. Guests must walk outside to reach these bathroom facilities. Guests with mobility issues should note that the most direct routes from Lawn rooms to bathroom facilities may involve stairs.
Per-night rate: $50.00 per person, per night + 5.3% sales tax

Parking
Rare Book School covers the cost of on-Grounds parking for program participants. Note that parking locations for residential programs are assigned by UVA Parking and Transportation and are based on availability.
If you require parking during your stay, please email rbsprograms@virginia.edu to request a permit. If you would like to make a donation to cover the cost of your parking, please follow the link in your Info Guide. Please specify whether you are staying at Bond House or on the Lawn.
Reservations
Rare Book School will provide you with a reservation code which you will need to make your room reservation. All reservations must be made online with a valid credit card. Payment is due when you make your reservation.
Changes and Cancellations
Use the 2025 Room Reservations Change and Cancellation Form to make any changes to your existing reservation. Be sure to select "Rare Book School" and the correct session in the dropdown box beside "Program Associated with this Reservation." Please see the form for cancellation fees and policies.
